Microsoft Reportedly Preparing Surface Laptop 3 with 15-inch Screen

Microsoft will apparently launch a Surface Laptop 3 next month, with a new variant with a larger screen at 15-inch.

Microsoft will introduce a new generation of Surface devices at a launch event in New York City on October 2. Among the devices reported to be arriving are the Surface Book 3 and Surface Pro 7. However, Microsoft may also be preparing a Surface Laptop 3 launch, with an interesting refresh.

According to a report from WinFuture, Microsoft will release a 15-inch variant of the Surface Laptop. Previous generations of the device have been limited to a smaller 13.5-inch form factor. For the Surface Laptop 3, Microsoft is seemingly going to give customers more choice.

It is worth noting that the Surface Book currently has a 13.5-inch and 15-inch choice. If Microsoft does offer a larger Surface Laptop 3, the company’s hardware output will become increasingly blurred.

Both the Surface Book and Surface Pro devices are 2-in-1s that allow users to detach the screen as a tablet. If the Surface Laptop 3 gets a bigger variant, it will be a very similar product to the Surface Book, albeit without the detachable element.

That leads to growing rumors that Microsoft will avoid updating the Surface Book 3 this year. Early reports suggested the Surface Book 3 would be arriving, but that could be unlikely if a larger Surface Laptop is introduced. In fact, could the Surface Book 2 be the last generation of the device?

Surface Centaurus

As we reported in August, Microsoft is also rumored to be introducing its Surface Centaurus device at the event. This is the 2-in-1 device with a folding screen.

Microsoft’s journey with a foldable double screen device goes back years. The company was long predicted to be working on a folding smartphone called the Surface Phone. Chances of that hardware ever being made are virtually zero. However, Microsoft has been developing a laptop with two screens and a specified Windows 10 version.
