Microsoft’s Surface Pro 7 Will Reportedly Include Intel Ice Lake Processor

Microsoft’s upcoming Surface Pro 7 will support Intel’s latest generation processors according to a benchmark listing.

If rumors are true, will have a busy hardware launch during its Oct. 2 Surface event in New York City. Among the devices reportedly dropping will be the much-anticipated folding screen Surface. However, while that's filed in the rumor draw, the is a much more likely debutant.

Last month, a leak showcased some of the specs of the 7, as well as the Surface Book 3. Now, a Geekbench benchmark listing has pointed to the Pro 7 featuring the latest CPU technology.

The listing is for a product dubbed “OEMJL Product Name EV1.5A”, which seems to be Microsoft's new device. Why? Well, Microsoft uses a similar naming pattern for its Surface Go on the benchmarking software.

It seems the new entry-level Surface Pro 7 will run the latest Intel 10th Gen Ice Lake Core i5-1035G1 processor. This is a chipset that clocks at 3.60 GHz when in turbo mode. That means Microsoft is on board with other OEMs who have adopted Ice Lake processing.

Intel says the 10nm chips have been developed on the company's Sunny Cove architecture for Core i9 and Core i7. 10th gen Ice Lake chips sport 4 cores and 8 threads, allowing performance to be 18% faster compared to the previous generation. Like other generations Ice Lake CPUs are available as Core i3, Core i5, and Core i7.

Pro 7 Specs

Microsoft's new generation device will come with in-built LTE support. Typically, the company debuts LTE versions of its hardware after the launch of the Wi-Fi version. Some variants of the Surface Pro 7 will have Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8cx processor. Intel versions will be available as usual, this time packing 10TH Generation Core CPUs.

Microsoft will also finally bring USB-C connectivity to the Surface Pro range. Earlier this year, a Microsoft Patent suggested the Surface Pro 7 would get USB-C and remove the Surface Connect. That does seem to be the case, with USB-C to be included alongside the Connect.
