Microsoft Launcher 5.8 Beta Lands on Android with Intune Integration

Microsoft has rolled out Microsoft Launcher 5.8 through its beta app with a new automatic icon placement tool.

It's that time of the month where rolls out a new preview release for its application. This week, users can now download version 5.8 of the app through the beta channel.

Several features have been added to Microsoft Launcher 5.8, including improved app install tools. Users will now see that the Launcher adds new app icons automatically when an application is installed. The icons are added onto the smartphone homescreen.

Microsoft says the feature is available for devices running Android 8.0 and newer.

Also bundled into Microsoft Launcher 8.8 is integration with Microsoft's Intune service to IT admins. With this latest beta update, the Launcher works on Intune Fully Managed Devices. With this integration, admins can control device configuration from the home screen.

Here are the full release notes for Microsoft Launcher 5.8 bets:

  • Newly installed apps can be added to home screen automatically for devices running Android 8.0 and above.
  • Microsoft Intune Fully Managed Devices Support- IT pros now can configure home screen experiences for managed devices, including wallpaper, home screen apps, app icons placement, and feed availability.

Users can check out version 5.8 via the beta application on the Google Play store. If you are not a beta app user, you can either download the testing app or wait for version 5.8 to come to the standard application. That should happen in the coming weeks.

Version 5.7

If you are currently on the normal branch of the Microsoft Launcher, you should not be on version 5.7, which debuted in beta last month. This release focused on improving Cortana:

“As an intelligent assistant, Cortana will find all kinds of info, give you weather and traffic updates, and help you search the web. But Cortana will also get to know you better all the time. Cortana will help track and find the things you're passionate about, like your favorite artists or sports teams, to give you better recommendations and updates.”
