One of the best features in the recent Windows 10 May 2019 Update is the Windows Sandbox, a secure section to run apps and files. However, Sandbox has been broken for some time, rendering it useless for early adopters of Windows 10 version 1903. To remedy this, Microsoft has said it will roll out a fix in the near future.
Unfortunately, the fix did not come with a Windows 10 cumulative update (Build 18362.207) last week. In that particular release, Microsoft is issue fixes for Internet Explorer, and a bug in the Night Light. As for problems with the Windows Sandbox, they are likely to be solved in July.
Microsoft confirmed the problem is still in Windows 10 May 2019 Update and no workaround is available:
“Windows Sandbox may fail to start with “ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND (0x80070002)” on devices in which the operating system language is changed during the update process when installing Windows 10, version 1903,” the company said in the changelog.
Microsoft did not confirm when a fix for Windows Sandbox will be released, although July Patch Tuesday seems likely.
Windows Sandbox
Announced by Microsoft last year and released in May, Windows Sandbox serves as an integrated virtual desktop for Windows 10 Pro and Enterprise users. As the name sandbox suggests, the desktop provides a secure location for users to run a desktop, or as Microsoft says a “lightweight… isolated, temporary, desktop environment.”
Windows Sandbox allows users to run software they may believe to be harmful on their PC. Organizations can run these programs without damaging the PC. Among the requirements for running Sandbox are 4GB of RAM, AMD64 architecture, and 1GB of free disk space.
