Minecraft Classic Arrives on Browsers in Original Form (Bugs Included)

If you want to sample the world’s most popular game at genesis, head to Minecraft Classic on your browser for a different experience altogether.

Aside from being an addictive gaming experience, a part of 's ascension to world's most popular game came from its availability across platforms and form factors. You can play Minecraft on mostly anything, and now you can even play it on your browser.

-owned Minecraft developer Mojang is in the midst of celebrating the game's tenth anniversary. As part of the ongoing celebrations, the company has published the original Minecraft version on browsers.

This truly is the first edition version of the title, complete with the numerous bugs that affected that initial release. Obviously called “Minecraft Classic”, the game is exactly as it was in 2009.

If you are coming to Minecraft Classic from the current game, or indeed from any point since the game became hugely popular, you may be shocked. That's because the interface is significantly emptier, while available items are scarce. In fact, there are only 32 blocks to build with in this version.

As mentioned, you will also get all the bugs and technical foibles that were understandable for that initial game. In a blog post, Mojang's Tom Stone wrote about the nostalgia trip:

“Minecraft 2009 is even more glorious than we remembered! You're in for a real treat, particularly if you're really into dyed wool (and who isn't it?)”

Founder Out of the Loop

As we reported last month, the man who created that original Minecraft and grew the game to popularity is firmly persona non grata at Microsoft. The company has completely severed ties with Markus Persson (Notch).

“His comments and opinions do not reflect those of Microsoft or Mojang and are not representative of Minecraft.”

Notch has received ongoing criticism in recent years. Many believe he is now simply an online troll. Whether you think that or not, it cannot be denied Persson has spread transphobic and sexist content online, while also offering plenty of other unsavory language.
