We already know Microsoft is working on an Xbox One S console without a disc-drive. It was expected the device would be unveiled at E3 2019 in June. However, a new report suggests Microsoft will actually launch the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition on May 7.
Windows Central reports on documents that show the launch date will be in early May. This looks to be a good leak as the report also shows a leaked box for the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition.
Microsoft has been a leader in the changing trends and the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition helps the company reach the forefront of digital gaming. The landscape of gaming is changing and disc games must be installed and updates downloaded. Insta-gaming from putting a disc in a machine and playing has gone.
Many gamers have already gone all digital, where they download a title from an online store and play it without ever seeing a disc. This means games are available on demand. We all know the frustration of having to change discs (or cartridges in the old days) whenever we wanted to play a new game.
Digital Expansion
It is worth noting Microsoft has yet to speak officially in any capacity about the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition. However, rumors suggest the device will feature a 1TBB HDD and be bundled with either Forza Horizon 3, Sea of Thieves, or Minecraft pre-installed.
Microsoft’s digital gaming plans are starting to take shape. Xbox Game Pass is a monthly subscription service that allows users to play hundreds of games for a monthly price of $9.99. Microsoft describes the service as Netflix for gamers.
Elsewhere, Project xCloud is a cloud-based game streaming service Microsoft is currently developing. With this service, Microsoft will store all game performance and data in the cloud, allowing gamers to play without system or hardware limitations. This means gamers will be able to access Xbox games across platforms and on any device, even mobile.
