Microsoft Expands Surface for Business to 11 European Nations

Surface Business is coming to 11 new markets across Europe as Microsoft ramps up organizational support for its hardware line.

Surface devices have become increasingly popular since launching over half a decade ago. While the company does pitch its hardware to consumers, there's no denying Surface fits neatly into the enterprise and commercial niches. With that in mind, Microsoft is continuing to expand its Surface for Business availability.

The company has announced localized Surface for Business support in Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Slovenia and Slovakia. This is an effort to expand availability for organizations and education locations in 11 new European markets.

David Alexander, senior product manager for Surface, made the announcement through a blog post on Monday. He says the expansion will open on May 1, 2019. He says the Surface Pro 6 and 2 will be available through business sales distribution.

Because these are enterprise models, there is no operating system installed. Microsoft sells to companies and organizations, so buyers of Surface for Business in the 11 new countries will have to buy Windows separately.

Developing Configurations

The same goes for the Surface Pro Type Covers, which are not bundled. It is worth noting Microsoft is still developing configuration options for customers:

There is also growing interest from commercial customers wanting to outfit mainstream productivity employees with devices containing 16GB memory.

“While 16GB memory options are already available on Intel Core i7 models of various Surface devices, we are now offering a configuration of 16GB memory on an Intel Core i5 model with 256GB storage for both Surface Pro 6 and Surface Laptop 2. We are offering these configurations in the U.S. and Canada this month and will evaluate opportunities to expand this configuration more broadly in the future.”
