Microsoft has announced SharePoint Online will soon receive new page enhancements, allowing users to have more control over the title and description on a page. The company also revealed display improvements are coming to the web-based collaborative service.
In terms of the new page title abilities, Microsoft announced this month SharePoint Online will get new options. Users can choose between “four layouts, two alignment choices, text badges above the title, the ability to change the displayed author, and show or hide the published date.”
Microsoft says the new features will enhance page control in the following ways:
- Customize title region | control what the title region of each page looks like (layout, alignment, title, date).
- Section backgrounds | display as distinct sections with visual variety throughout the page.
- Custom page thumbnails | Choose a preferred thumbnail from Page details.
- Custom page descriptions | Create a custom description from Page details.
- FYI: removal of the Feedback button in preparation of new feedback experience | in preparation for a new feedback experience coming soon, we are removing the current Feedback button from the site footer of all SharePoint home and modern site pages.
- FYI: removal of the pictures of the first three members of the group | Users who want to see members of the group can continue to click the Members link in the header to see the full membership list.
SharePoint Online users receiving “Targeted” test builds can already test these new features. Microsoft says they should be available to all users sometime before the end of this week.
Team Sites
Elsewhere in the world of SharePoint Online, Microsoft has offered details on how to create SharePoint Online Team Sites. In a blog post, Mark Kashman, a senior product manager for the product, provided advice, including connecting Team Sites to Office 365 Groups.
“You can create group-connected SharePoint team sites in seconds. BOOM! When you create a group, Office 365 gives the group a shared inbox, a calendar, a OneNote notebook, a default place for files (the team site document library), Planner for task management—and now a modern team site with pages, lists, libraries and team news – all to help the group collaborate, communicate and move things forward.”
Users have tools such as the ability to turn on external sharing or add custom themes and brands to the Team Site.
