Last December, Microsoft confirmed its Windows 10 Edge browser will become Chromium based. It was a case of if you can’t beat them, join them as Microsoft adopted Google’s technology. Since then, Google has been beefing up the capabilities of its own Chrome browser on Windows 10.
A slew of recent features have come to the app, and the latest will be to adopt Windows 10’s “show text suggestions as I type” feature. Also, the browser has added support for Windows Mixed Reality for preview users.
This feature has been available in Windows 10 since the release of version 1803, the April 2018 Update. It is supported in Microsoft Edge and works in other applications, including rival browser Firefox. However, it has not been available in Chrome.
Text suggestions is a feature located deep in the Typing Settings of Windows 10. It is worth noting the feature it only available for keyboards set to English (US). It seems as though Chrome has now implemented the feature. That said, developers have yet to start working with it, so it is not functional in the browser yet.
Windows Mixed Reality
Chrome users running the Canary preview for version 74 can now start using Windows Mixed Reality through the browser. Interested users will also need to be members of the Windows Insider Program.
Those who meet those requirements copy chrome://flags/#windows-mixed-reality into your address bar and hit enter to enable Windows MR on the browser.
Google has not said when it will release the support for all users. Considering it is tied to the Insider Program, we guess we will have to wait until the next stable release of Windows. That is Windows 10 19H1, which will launch this April as version 1903.
