VPN services are not just about allowing you to watch Netflix from other countries, they also provide added browsing security. has stood ahead of its rivals in integrating VPN technology in its browser. The company was the first to bundle VPN into its service. Now Opera says it is expanding the feature to mobile.

In a blog post today, the company announced it browser app will soon include a free VPN. Opera is rolling out the feature in stages, with beta users gaining support gradually.

Like the desktop service, the VPN will be free to use and will be unlimited through server connections in Asia, America, and Europe. Other tools include an “optimal” setting that automatically finds the fastest available connections.

“This exciting new feature in Opera for Android is designed to empower you with increased control and privacy of your browsing. You no longer need to download separate, paid-for apps to shield your browsing when on public Wi-Fi. Just tap on “Settings” in your Opera browser and activate VPN.”

When the VPN is turned on, all browser traffic data is blocked, not even Opera can collect the data. It is worth noting the company previously had a free VPN plugin for iOS and Android users but is was shuttered in 2018.

Integration

It seems that closure was to develop a fully integrated VPN. Unfortunately, iOS seems to have missed out in the transition. We guess Opera will migrate the feature to iPhone eventually, but no official word has been given on whether that's the case.

“The reason why we are including this built-in VPN in our Android browser is because it gives you that extra layer of protection that you are searching for in your daily mobile browsing,” the company in a blog post.
