Google Raises G Suite Prices in Line with Microsoft Office 365

G Suite has received a price increase for Basic and Business Editions. However, this is the first increase in 10 years and G Suite is still more affordable than Microsoft Office.

has increasingly tried to make its productivity tool package a more viable competitor to . While adding new features and even opening the suite to non-account holders helps, perhaps the best way to compete is through generating easy cash.

With that in mind, Google has announced it will increase the price of G Suite. In fairness, this will be the first ever price bump for the package. In a blog post on Wednesday, Google said it will raise the price from $5 to $6 per user per month.

G Suite Business will also receive a price increase, from $10 to $12 per user per month. Enterprise Edition customers who receive the suite in bulk will not have to pay more. Google says the price changes will come into effect for annual subscribers after April 2.

The company says increasing the price by 20% for Basic and Business users is reasonable considering G Suite has been available for $5 per month for 10 years.

“Over the last ten years, G Suite has grown to provide more tools, functionality and value to help businesses transform the way they work. The one thing that hasn't changed over this time is price.”

Starting with Gmail a decade ago, G Suite has grown into a full-fledged bundle of productivity. Indeed, among its current services are Google staples like Docs, Sheets, Drive, Hangouts, and more. It is worth noting Business Premium costs $12.50 per user per month, although we would argue Microsoft's suite is still more potent.

Non-Account Collaboration

Last month, Google announced it is opening G Suite slightly to non-account holders. Mountain View revealed a feature that allows users without a Google account to work on documents. Non-account holders cannot create documents, but they can work on creations when an account holder invites them.

Invites will be in the form of a pin code than non-account holders can use to access , Slides, and Sheets. Admins of the G Suite documents can manage usage and monitor how the files are edited.
