Microsoft Stream Comes to Office 365 on iOS

Microsoft Stream has been further expanded and is now available for iPhone and iPad on iOS 10 or newer through Office 365 Enterprise.

-

Microsoft Stream launched back in 2017 as a replacement for Office 365 Video. However, while Office 365 is a cross-platform service, Stream has been limited in its availability. That is slowly changing as the service is now available on iOS for iPhones and iPads.

The launch of Microsoft Stream on iOS follows the previous release of the service on Android. To run the application on Apple’s platform, you will need to be running iOS 10 or newer. Microsoft has optimized Stream to work on the larger screen of the iPad tablets.

If you are interested in Microsoft Stream on your mobile device, you can download it for Android here and iOS here. Microsoft also runs a mobile beta program, which allows users to gain early access to upcoming features.

Stream is described as an intelligent enterprise video service. The solution provides a platform for organizations to upload, view, and share videos in a secure environment.

The idea behind Stream is to provide a dedicated video platform for business users. While other platforms, like YouTube, have business content, enterprise is not the focus. Microsoft has access to millions of business customers through services like Azure and Office 365 and wants them to use the single destination video platform.

Intelligence

Microsoft Stream is available to Office 365 Enterprise users with E1, E3, and E5 plans. Intelligent features embedded into the video service include:

  • Speech-to-text transcribed audio—Transcribed audio becomes searchable text. Simply type in descriptive keywords to jump to any point in a video they are spoken.
  • Face detection—With face detection, viewers can see where each person in the video is shown throughout the video. A clickable timeline indicates every place they appear.
  • Linked timecodes—Timecodes are displayed within the comments section and are linked to the text transcripts or table of contents, so you can jump to a specific point in the video.
