Google Duo Will Soon Have Group Calling

Google Duo is taking an important step to competing with more established services with a group video calling feature that will arrive soon.

-

Google wants to improve and grow its Duo video calling service and has some major new features planned for the app. Android Police reports the company is testing a group calling ability. At the moment, it seems the feature is reserved for the Android version of Google Duo.

Users are not going to get a group video calling experience they would have on other services, such as Skype. For example, the group chat function will support just seven people. It is also impossible to add a new member to the chat once the call has started.

Google is also adding another useful feature to Duo, whether you’re in a group call or not. The company is working on a low light mode. As the name suggested, this ability changes the video output to allow better visuals during the night.

At the moment, these features can be filed under rumor. However, they are not particularly far fetched and we expect Google to roll them out soon. Whether they come to Duo on other platforms remains to be seen.

Google has sold Duo on its ease of use. A simple interface allows users to pick the app up and start using it quickly. So far it has paid off with Duo receiving good reviews on iOS and Google Play. It is unlikely to compete on an even footing with other video calling services just yet, but more features will help increase its functionality.

Google Duo Features:

Simple interface – Pick a contact and jump right in, with a simple interface that makes video calling as easy as one tap.

The highest quality video calling app* – Experience more reliable video calls with excellent video quality whether you’re on Wi-Fi or on-the-go.

Works Cross-Platform – Duo works across both operating systems on smartphones and iPad, so you can call and hangout with friends and family using just one app.

Knock Knock – See who’s calling before you pick up with a live video preview.

Video Messages – Want to share a quick moment between calls or friend can’t answer? No problem. Leave a video message to capture any moment.

Voice Calls – Make voice-only calls to your friends when you can’t chat over video.
