Microsoft Has Been Hiding Gift Cards in Its Christmas Emails

Microsoft's 12 days of faves email had a hidden gift, but the offer has expired after too much attention. The company says to watch out for more over the holidays.

Inquisitive readers of Microsoft’s promotional emails have been rewarded this Christmas. Users have noticed that clicking the trees on the company’s 12 days of faves email nets them a $10 Microsoft Store gift card.

The promotion appears to be exclusive to the US, but according to users on Reddit, the offer is now over. Users are being directed to a webpage that reads:

“More surprises are on the way…You found the hidden holiday surprise in your email. However, this limited offer is no longer available. Keep checking your email for more fun holiday surprises throughout the season.”

Though it’s a shame the offer was available for such a short time, it does seem more are coming. Other Reddit users have noted a similar easter egg in Microsoft’s Black Friday emails, though they’re unlikely to work now.

Holiday Deals

As the holiday season ramps up, it’s likely the company will provide more treats in its emails. No doubt users will be furiously clicking every email from now on. It’s a clever tactic from Microsoft that should mean more eyeballs on their various products.

Microsoft is currently offering up to $100 off Xbox One consoles and $200 off select Surface Pro 6 tablets. It’s also promoting savings of up to $300 on the Surface Laptop 2 and money off tons of OEM offerings.

It’s not on the same level as Black Friday deals, but there should be an opportunity for some good last minute presents. So far, we’re yet to see these email promotions in other countries, but it’s a slim possibility.
