If you have been waiting around for Microsoft to launch an LTE version of the Surface Go, the wait is nearly over. Best Buy has “leaked” the upcoming Surface Go LTE edition, which will launch just in time for the Holiday Season.
The important details here are the Surface Go LTE will be available on November 20 and will cost $679. For that price customers will get the version with 8GB of RAM and 128GB internal storage.
Firstly, I want to say this is not a leak in the strictest sense. Best Buy has almost certainly purposely allowed this information to seep into the public eye. Either way, it’s good to know how much the Surface Go LTE will cost.
At first glance, that $679 price tag seems a little high. For a start, it is $279 more than the standard entry level Go ($399), although that is pegged back to 4GB of RAM and 64GB storage. For the similar non-LTE configuration of 8GB RAM and 128GB storage, users pay $549. So, you will need to pay a $130 premium for LTE.
LTE Premium
Still, it is worth remembering the Surface Pro LTE debuted for $1449 last year, nearly double the price of the entry Pro. In other words, companies charge a lot more for the right to use your device online wherever you are.
Best Buy will sell the Surface Go LTE unlocked, so customers will be able to choose the carrier they want.
The Surface Go is Microsoft’s consumer-level tablet that competes directly with devices like Apple’s iPad. Billed as a prosumer choice, the device launched during the summer and has started life with decent early sales.
It is worth noting the Microsoft Store also lists the LTE version of the tablet for $679.
