Microsoft is doubling the storage space for Xbox Game DVR, but it comes with caveats that some Xbox users aren’t happy about. Though there’s more space than ever, the company is introducing some significant restrictions.
According to Xbox’s Larry Hryb, existing clips older than 90 days will soon be deleted, while all new clips without a view will be removed after 30 days. Some consumers are very unhappy that Microsoft is making this choice for them, or worried about precious memories disappearing.
However, it’s worth noting that the outrage surrounding this change is somewhat overstated. Naturally, this limit only applies to clips on Xbox Live. Even if that copy is removed, you can keep a local copy on your device.

Easy Workarounds
Users who are worried about space can record Xbox Game DVR directly to a USB or external hard drive. They can also upload the clips to OneDrive or Google Drive from the console. Those with a PC can head to XboxDVR.com to grab their latest clips for their desktop.
Of course, it’s also easy to avoid auto-deletion. If you watch each clip after uploading, they’ll never get removed. It’s a change Microsoft has made to give users more space without requiring a ton of its resources.
Admittedly, though, the fact it’s Microsoft changes things somewhat. The company is a cloud giant, so it’s not like it’s low on storage space. Some users would undoubtedly prefer the old limit, but this is a good compromise for users who use the feature regularly.
