Firefox Introduces Windows 10 Share Integration

Adoption of Windows 10 services in third-party browsers continues with Share dialogue support in Mozilla’s Firefox browser.

-

Increasingly, Microsoft’s Windows 10 features are being adopted by rival web browsers. We have seen Google introduce Windows notifications on Chrome, while Firefox has done the same. Now, Mozilla’s Firefox browser has support for the Windows 10 Share dialogue.

The company says this feature is only available for Windows 10 versions of Firefox. Through the browser, the Share menu is available through the main Firefox menu. Selecting the menu will open the features familiar to Windows 10 Share.

At the moment, the integration is only available in preview through Nightly builds of Firefox 64. Mozilla says it will roll out the feature to all users by the end of the year.

Microsoft will certainly be happy that third-parties are increasingly embracing Windows. Especially in web browsing, where the market has been generally split. Microsoft Edge is not as widespread as Google Chrome or Firefox, so Windows features arriving on other browsers is important.

Windows 10 Notifications

In August, Google announced it is now supporting Windows 10 notifications in Chrome 68. Google worked directly with Microsoft to create the integration. With the feature, Chrome notifications appear in the Windows 10 notification center.

Earlier today, we reported on Google’s adoption of Progressive Web Apps in Windows 10. This important new feature is available in Chrome 70, which launched this week.

Users of Chrome 70 will be able to use PWAs in Windows 10 like a native app, without the browser. PWAs allow web apps to function on desktop, potentially allowing the app gap on Windows 10 to be reduced.
