While Microsoft’s Surface range is most notable because of the Surface Pro, Book, Laptop, and Studio, the Surface Hub is at the top of the series. This is a business networking conferencing screen come Windows PC and is available to organizations. However, only now is one of Microsoft’s key business tools coming to the Hub.
This week, the company has launched Microsoft Teams for the Surface Hub. It’s been a long time coming considering Teams has been available globally since March 2017. Let’s not forget the Hub is Microsoft’s core piece of enterprise hardware.
Teams is the company’s workplace chat and collaboration service, a Slack competitor that is also integrating Skype for Business. So, it’s good that Microsoft Teams is finally available on the Surface Hub.
Members of the Windows Insider Program are already familiar with the Teams app as Microsoft has been testing it on the Hub for a few months. Now it is rolling out to all users of the device through the Microsoft Store.
It is worth noting you will need to be running Windows 10 Team Edition OS 1703.15063.1292 released August 30. Microsoft says the Teams app brings features such as four simultaneously video streams.
Skype for Business
Microsoft is eventually going to fold Skype for Business into Teams. The company says Surface Hub clients are asking what will happen to Skype for Business when it is removed. In its announcement, Microsoft explains what will happen:
“We made sure you can use both on the Surface Hub. Whether you’re in the process of testing Microsoft Teams in your organization or in the middle of a migration, or maybe you’re already using Microsoft Teams and would still like to preserve your ability to join Skype for Business meetings for the Surface Hub.”
