Teams has been periodically updated since its launch last year to become a potent competitor to Slack. In the race for the workplace chat/collaboration market, Teams has a head start thanks to integration. However, in terms of features, Slack is still arguably more functional than Teams.

On , Microsoft is attempting to address the feature parity. A new update for has been issued, bringing the service up to version 1416/1.0.0.2018091302 on 's mobile platform.

This release is focused on improving the call experience with some interesting call-related features. Among them is the ability to consult with a recipient before a call is transferred.

Another new feature that will interest Microsoft Teams users is the ability to participate in Q&As during live events.

Below is Microsoft's full release notes:

  • Start a new 1:1 or group call from the Calls tab
  • Consult with the recipient before transferring a call
  • Leave or mute a meeting chat using the new meeting details page
  • Participate in Q&A during Live events

Reaching Skype for Business

We already know one of the core goals of Microsoft Teams is for to fold into it. Microsoft says Skype for Business will eventually be removed as all its features integrate into Teams. That's a slow and ongoing process, but when complete will make Teams better equipped to match Slack.

Microsoft's push for Skype for Business and Teams to become one service reached a new milestone last month. The company announced Microsoft Teams has reached feature parity with the online version of Skype for Business.

This means Microsoft Teams can now effectively replace Skype for Business Online and users will not miss out on features. While that's true, Microsoft is not shutting the Online service yet.
