Microsoft Previews Office for Android August Update with Zoom Improvements and More

The latest Office for Android update makes zooming more powerful on Word and PowerPoint, while also introducing some useful functionality to Outlook groups.

-

has rolled out an update to Office for Android Insiders, adding several new features and improvements. The additions push the version up to 16.0.10730.20005, with changes to PowerPoint, Word, Outlook.

In Word, users should note some much-needed improvements to zooming. When you pinch, documents now fit automatically to your screen size without wasted space. This makes it far easier to find the right balance on smartphones.

In Outlook, users can now quick reply to a message while keeping the conversation. They can also view all group files from the ‘Group Details' page.

Office for Android PowerPoint Improvements

Microsoft's other focus is PowerPoint, which has also received zoom tweaks. You now pinch out to get a closer look at slides and toggle quickly between portrait and landscape to hone the design.

Last but not least, you can finally add sound and video from PowerPoint on Android. This was a big limitation of the mobile app previously, so it's great to see the team bringing it in.

At this point, it's unclear when these features will roll out to the general apps, but it's worth noting that there's no limit on the number of Office for Android Insider. If they're willing to put up with a few bugs, users can simply opt-in, before updating to the latest versions.

In other Android news, Microsoft has begun testing its Your Phone app on Android. It lets you drag images from your handset to your PC, which could help with Office productivity. The functionality will roll out to all in October.
