Report: Microsoft to Bring Movies- and TV App to iOS and Android with Movies Anywhere Support

-

A new report suggests that will bring its Movies & TV app to iOS and , allowing users to watch its offerings on any device. The move is expected to fill a gap in the company's reach, and signals that its Mobile plans are well and truly over.

Sources familiar with the matter tell Windows Central that this is an attempt by Microsoft to lure users to its store. The Windows 10, web, and Xbox service features a range of apps and games, but it doesn't seem popular when it comes to other forms of media.

Part of that is likely to be the restriction of playback to Windows 10 and Xbox, so this should make some users happy. However, harder for Microsoft to fix is its track record of axing the services users rely on, such as its Groove Music Pass last year.

Movies Anywhere and Release Date

However, it seems the company is looking to renew its commitment in other areas, too. According to Zack Bowden, the company will be joining the Movies Anywhere program. In a move that's very different to the Microsoft of the past, users will be able to watch content from other retailers on its service.

Unfortunately, sources say the apps won't release any time soon. Work is still ongoing, and it's not clear if Movies Anywhere support will launch before then. We're also unable to verify any of these reports, though Bowden has been accurate several times in the past.
