Windows Ink Integration Comes to Windows Mail and Calendar

Mail and Calendar users now get Windows Ink tools directly in the app, allowing stylus and finger drawing in emails.

-

At the end of last month, we reported was preparing some interesting new features for the app. Among them was integration with tools for emails and calendar entries. The company has now rolled out those features to Windows Insiders.

Through version 16006.1022820108.0 of the Windows 10 Mail app, users can start inserting drawings and other Ink creations into mails. The ability to annotate images through mouse, pen, or finger articulation is also available. The features are found in a new Draw ribbon in the app.

For a full list of the features, check out the changelog:

  • Insert a Drawing Canvas from the ribbon anywhere in your email to add a sketch.
  • Annotate any picture by drawing on or next to it.
  • Use ink effects like galaxy, rainbow, and rose gold colored pens.

It is worth remembering this is a preview release, so this is just for Windows Insiders. Of course, once Microsoft takes feedback and tests the integration it will roll out to the Windows 10 Mail app. We are not sure if the company will do that soon or hold the ability until the release of Redstone 5.

Windows Ink Expansion

Windows Ink was arguably a bold integration when it came to Windows 10 a year after the platform launched. It allows users to interact with the operating system using stylus, fingers, and mouse. It brings a customization to Windows apps through drawing and art.

One problem with Ink when it launched was its limitations in terms of availability. Microsoft has been working on making the feature useable across more of its apps. Mail is the latest and it is a welcome addition.
