Always Connected PCs running Windows 10 take the best of laptops with mobile processing benefits like increased battery life. Cellular compatibility is also part of the abilities of Always Connected PCs. Microsoft has tied up some network carriers to support the platform. Today, Swedish company Tele2 has joined the growing list.
Microsoft’s implementation of eSIM technology is growing slowly. The company has the following countries and carriers supporting the tech:
- China – China Telecom
- Italy – TIM (Telecom Italia)
- K. – EE
- S. – Sprint, Verizon
Sweden is now also on board through Tele2, which announced its involvement today. The company says it is supporting Microsoft because it expects a flood of devices to adopt Always Connected PCs. Considering the lukewarm reception to the first wave of laptops using Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835.
Still, Tele2 is confident:
“The kinds of devices with [an] Internet connection increase every day. We already see connected cars, glasses, and even dog collars, but nearly everything will be part of the future connected society. Tele2 plays a part in this evolution, as this eSIM cooperation with Microsoft clearly exemplifies,” said Joacim Rask, head of business development at Tele2.
“This is clearly the next step for a simpler and more connected life. eSIM makes it possible to connect your device to [the] Internet anywhere, without the hassle of having to bring additional equipment, tether using your mobile phone, or scout for a WiFi zone,” added Rask.
Always Connected PC allows PCs to connect to mobile devices at any time. It links directly with full Windows 10, or as Microsoft says the “Windows 10 everyone knows”. The company says this is a new computing definition, a change in modern PC use.
Updating
Qualcomm is already working towards updating current technology in Always Connected PCs. The Snapdragon 1000 will be a dedicated chipset for Windows 10 on ARM devices. Qualcomm’s new silicon supports up to 16GB LPDDR4X RAM and two 128GB UFS 2.1 modules.
