Windows 10 April 2018 Update Has Many Problems, Including Microphone, Sounds, and Mouse Issues

Microsoft’s newly launched Windows 10 April 2018 Update is loaded with bugs, which have all been listed, including mouse delays.

-

Earlier this week, sent out its April 2018 Update. The April 30 launch was just for manual installations, with the wider automatic roll out starting next week. Just a couple of days into its official availability, users are reporting issues with the April 2018 Update.

A report from WindowsUnited lists the known issues described so far. Among the problems facing the Windows 10 April 2018 Update are microphone, sound, and mouse bugs. The most likely scenario for these problems is they are unsupported driver issues.

We expect Microsoft will quickly fix these through Patch Tuesday next week. In the meantime, check out the known issues in Windows 10 April 2018 Update.

  • The microphone is no longer working:Go into the settings and look under the item Privacy, if apps are allowed to access the microphone.
  • Speaker extension:Here the settings seem to have been reset. To solve the problem, look into the speaker properties.
  • Mouse reacts delayed:your mouse movements and acceleration are different than before. So far, no solution for this is known.
  • Alt-Tab:There was a delay when using Alt-Tab. To solve the problem, disable the Notification Assistant under System and then Notification Assistant.
  • The frequency of reports:It has been reported that the settings in the Privacy / Diagnostics & Feedback section can no longer be changed. For some users, the message “Windows Insider Program manages this option” appears, even though the device was never registered in the Insider program. A solution does not exist so far.
  • Edge does not start:Edge does not start despite a reset. Both cause and solution of the problem are known so not far.
  • Missing context menu:Some users report missing context menus in the taskbar. A fix is not available yet.
  • No active microcode updates:In the wake of the Spectre attacks, Microsoft had released versions for versions 1709 and earlier. To what extent these microcode updates are also available in version 1803 is not yet known exactly. To be sure, you should use the InSpectre tool for review.

April 2018 Update Problems

It is worth noting having issues with a new platform is hardly uncommon. Microsoft attempts to create a smooth transition by previewing builds through the Windows Insider Program. Even so, some teething problems are to be expected. That's why we advise business users to hold off on new Windows builds for a couple of months.

With that in mind, Microsoft has recently updated its deferral process for new builds.

Through the Windows 10 April 2018 Update, Microsoft has had a few issues. It is believed the company was forced to delay the mooted early-April launch for the update. A blocking bug was said to be the cause of the postponement and Microsoft only just launched the upgrade in April, just missing a May release.
