So, today has been a day of reporting a consistent stream of bugs and issues with Windows 10 April 2018 Update. It seems Microsoft has a buggy release on its hands. The latest problem is causing the Google Chrome web browser to intermittently freeze.

The problem is exasperated by the fact it is not just Chrome that stops working. In fact, the issue causes the whole machine to freeze, with all keystrokes and mouse movements going unanswered. Also, the whole Windows 10 system locks.

Most of us are used to frantically going to ctrl+alt+del to save the day, but even this does not work. There are some things to know about this problem. Firstly, the problem is not a constant and is happening to users a few times per day. Secondly, closing the device and reopening it later appears to stop the freezing.

That said, the last point cannot be classed as a fix because it does not prevent the freezing happening in the first place. A growing number of early Windows 10 April 2018 Update adopters are reporting this problem on Reddit.

It is hard to know what the underlying problem is. Apparently it is not a hardware issue as users on numerous configurations are experience the problem. Microsoft already has a number of problems to deal with for this update, so we expect the company to tackle this with Patch Tuesday next week.
