Yesterday we wrote about Microsoft’s plan to make Windows 10 April Update widely available on May 8 at Build 2018. The clear irony of that was the April Update launching in May. Well, today Microsoft has stopped that slightly embarrassing situation by confirming the April update will launch this coming Monday.
That is April 30, so Microsoft will sneak its next major Windows 10 update through the gates just in time. It was initially believed the Windows 10 April Update would drop on April 11. However, that didn’t happen as Microsoft delayed the release due to a blocking bug.
It is worth mentioning the company never confirmed this bug was there or that the first release was meant for April 11. Still, considering the RTM version of the April Update reached the Insider Program in March, an early April release was logical.
Either way, it was getting close to the month and looking like the April Update would miss its namesake month. So what about the report yesterday that Microsoft will roll out the April Update at Build 2018?
Release
Well, the company says the initial roll out will begin on Monday, but the wider release will get under way on May 8, which is when Build is happening. None of this matters to most users as only a few will be receiving Windows 10 April Update downloads straight away. Microsoft will roll out the upgrade in stages over the next weeks and months.
Speaking to TechCrunch today, Windows product marketing general manager Aaron Woodman said the update continues the Windows 10 evolution:
“When you think about the release, there is a theme being pulled through. How do we help customers really get things complete and save time and be more efficient on Windows than on any other operating system.”
