Dell has beefed up its mobile workstation products with the introduction of a new 2-in-1. Called the Precision 5530 2-in-1, the device is a foldable laptop that can sit in tablet mode on top of its base. Alongside the new hardware, Dell announced some updates for its business PC line of devices.
In terms of the 5530 2-in-1, the chipset options for the workstation will be an Intel i5-8305G, i7-8705G, or i7-8706G CPUS paired with with Radeon Pro WX Vega M GL graphics. Other specs include a 15.6-inch screen, a 2TB NVMe SSD, USB-C connectivity, a 74Wh battery, and up to 16GB of RAM.
There is also a regular (non-folding) version of the Precision 5530. That unit has from a 4-core i5-8400H up to a 6-core i98950HK with up to 32GB of RAM. Storage IS handled by a M.2 NVMe SSD and a 2.5-inch solid state. Dell seems to be pushing the 2-in-1 as the light and more portable unit, while the regular version is a more standard workstation form factor.
In terms of price, the normal Precision 5530 will launch May 22 and will cost $1,450. Dell has yet to price the 5530 2-in-1, but the company says it will launch in July or August.
Precision 7730
Dell has also announced the top-of-the-line Precision 7730. It has the same processor configurations as the normal 5530, so either 6-core i9-8950HK and i7-8850H processors, down to 4-core i5-8400H or i5-8300H. Memory is boosted to up to 64GB of 2666MHz DDR4 RAM, while Dell says up to 128GB will be available in the future.
Graphics are dealt with via an Intel HD graphics, Radeon Pro WX 7100, or Quadro P5200, P4200, or P3200, your choice. Dell says the Precision 7730 can configure up to 8TB of storage from four separate NVMe SSDs.
The 7730 will also make its debut on May 22 and will cost from $1,510.
