Microsoft is planning an update for the Windows 10 Photos app that will add a new feature. A new report from AggiornamentiLumia suggests the company will debut a Timeline feature for the application.
As the name suggests, Timeline presents a view of the photos within the app that allows users to easily scroll through images. The new feature will allow users to see photos in reverse chronological order.
Yes, this is a feature that should have already been made available, it at least it is coming soon. It will certainly be a useful addition to the Photos app for Windows 10 users with lots of images. The current quick jump feature works well, but Timeline should prefer quicker and more efficient navigation when scanning through images.
Microsoft will also add a new small image preview of pictures when they are scrolled over in the gallery.
That’s not all because the Photos app for Windows 10 will receive Paint 3D integration. With Paint 3D, users will be able to add 3D effects to images and edit them within the app. Currently it is possible to share images to Paint, so this new process should be more intuitive.
The Photos update will also give users tools to add commentary or audio files to projects in the Story Remix Feature.
Availability
It seems Microsoft is finalizing this update now, and it is expected to land in the next few weeks. Whether this will ship with Redstone 4 remains to be seen, but the update will probably go through preview first.
That means Microsoft may push it to the new App Preview Program, which will be coming to Redstone 5. It allows users to get early access to Microsoft app previews without needing the Skip Ahead branch. We suggested earlier this week that it could be a separate program, but that is not the case.
