For years, Chinese hardware maker Chuwi has been making Surface Clones, but it's latest tablet will offer something much rarer. Like it's previous HiBook, the company's Hi8 will dual boot Windows 10 and Android.
It's a strange option, but one that has many advantages. Windows 10 is a powerhouse for productivity, while Android is a natural option for regular web browsing and exclusive apps.
However, there is one caveat. The Hi8 will run Android 5.1 Lollipop, which is almost three years old. This means users won't be getting the most premium Android experience, but there's really nothing wrong with the older version. It still uses Material Design, has improved notifications, and has good performance and battery life.
Add to that the student target audience, and you start to realize that this isn't supposed to be a high-end device.
Chuwi Hi8 Air Specs
The Chuwi Hi8 Air will feature modest specs inside a nice metal body. The 8″ screen is an FHD 1920×1200 LCD at a 16:10 aspect ratio. Not up to the standards of high-end tablets, but still enough for everyday use.
The same applies to the hardware underneath. The device is powered by an Intel X5 Cherry Trail Z8350, with a base frequency of 1.44 Hz, and a turbo of 1.92. The RAM comes in at just 2 GB, and it has 32GB internal storage.
However, Hi8i also promises up to 128 GB SSD storage, a 4000mAH battery, and some I/O. The tablet will have a micro USB, micro HDMI, and 3.5mm headphone jack. It also bundles a Bluetooth keyboard with the purchase, so you'll have productivity options from the get-go.
Unfortunately, we don't have any details on the price, which will probably be the defining factor. There's also no word on release date, so stay tuned for further details.
