Reports: Samsung and Xioami Working on Always Connected Windows 10 ARM PCs

Xoami and Samsung will allegedly release Always Connected laptops for release both in store and online. So far, details on specs are sparse.

The release of Always Connected PCs has been delayed until next year, but it's not all bad news. According to Fudzilla, both and Xioami are working on laptops with Snapdragon processors.

Details are sparse currently, but Fudzilla says:

“Xiaomi started to make its laptops last year and got quite a lot of traction with its thin and light machines powered by Intel processors. Since there is a market and a value proposition with the Snapdragon on Windows 10, Xiaomi started working on its own design.”

According to its sources, the Xaomi model will be much cheaper than other OEM's, and the company's huge presence in China should help to propel the platform. The Always Connected PCs will allegedly be sold via the carrier network, both in-store and online.

Release Date and Industry Support

If the reports are to be believed, will have significant support for Windows 10 on ARM. The Asus NovaGo is coming, as well as the HP Envy x2 and another from Lenovo.

As well as much better battery life and cellular connectivity, the devices will turn on instantly and likely cost less. However, questions still remain about the performance. The alleged leaked benchmarks aren't impressive.

An 8 GB RAM device running Windows 10 Pro gave a Geekbench score of 1066 single core and 3631 multi. These benchmarks seem to utilize the Snapdragon 835 processor, which can achieve scores of 2000 and 6000 on Android.

It's worth noting, however, that Microsoft is working on software improvements. At WinHEC last week, a spokesperson revealed some tweaks to Windows 10 that will likely arrive with Redstone 4.

As well better battery life, the tweaks will enable the use of eSIMs, meaning users won't need a separate SIM card. It wouldn't be a stretch to imagine that Microsoft is working on performance, too.

We also know some later devices will use the Snapdragon 435, which will naturally come with a speed increase. It's not clear which Samsung and Xioami will go for, but more choice can't be a bad thing.
