The Surface Pro with LTE Advanced Launches for Enterprise Customers

The Surface Pro with LTE Advanced is available in 128 GB and 256 GB variants, each with a top download speed of 450 Mbps. The devices will be available to all in spring 2018.

The Surface Pro was Microsoft’s biggest announcement Shanghai in May, and with it came the promise of an LTE version.

The Redmond giant set a date of later this year, but that was only half true. Microsoft crushed people’s dreams in October with a Store listing of Spring 2018, but that’s not the end of the story.

It seems Microsoft’s initial release date of December 1st still holds for businesses. As noted by Neowin, the company’s partner Insight is offering it in two different variants.

Both have a Core i5 7300U processor, but vary on memory and storage options. The first offers 4GB RAM and 128GB storage for $1,150, while the second has 8GB RAM and a 256GB SSD for $1,450.

No Core i7 Option

Unfortunately, neither is available with a Core i7 processor thanks to the LTE functionality. The Qualcomm Snapdragon X16 modem sits where an i7 fan would, meaning there’s simply not enough room.

Thankfully, it’s a great modem and has many features. Usually found in Android flagships, it’s capable of up to 1 Gbps speeds, but it looks like Microsoft has capped it at 450 Mbps. That’s not a big deal, because only experimental 5G networks can reach that.

Of course, there’s a reason the device is getting so much attention. Though the Surface 3 featured LTE, this is the first Surface Pro model to implement it. With the 2-in1’s great portability and battery life, it’s an ideal solution, especially if you travel a lot.

Businesses can grab the 4GB and 8GB versions from Insight today.
