Microsoft has today announced that it has extended its corporate partnership with SAP SE. Both companies will now increase their integrations of each other’s cloud-based software. On Tuesday, Microsoft detailed the road map that it now shares with the German business software giant.

SAP SE and Microsoft sent out a press release saying that the latest collaboration will see further cross-company integrations. Among them is SAP’s S/4 HANA database being used to run Microsoft’s core internal financial planning.

In the other direction, SAP will now run more than a dozen critical internal financial systems on Microsoft Azure.

“We are taking our partnership to the next level with this new capability to run S/4HANA in the Microsoft Azure environment,” said SAP CEO Bill McDermott. “The world’s significant businesses trust Microsoft and SAP. Together, we will help companies win the customer-driven growth revolution.”

The companies say the tie-up is designed to brings joint customers on SAP software onto Azure cloud services. Among those clients are global giants such as Coca-Cola, Columbia Sportswear, and Costco Wholesale Corp.

“As technology transforms every business and every industry, organizations are looking for the right platforms and trusted partners to help accelerate their digital transformation,” said Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft. “Building on our longtime partnership, Microsoft and SAP are harnessing each other’s products to not only power our own organizations, but to empower our enterprise customers to run their most mission-critical applications and workloads with S/4HANA on Azure.”

SAP on the Cloud

While SAP SE has now got closer to Microsoft, the company also allows its software to run across other cloud platforms. For example, the company actively urges clients to run its software on Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud.

Microsoft has been collaborating with the German company for over a year. The partnership has included Office 365 integration into SAP.
