Microsoft Has Delayed Surface Pro LTE Until Spring 2018

Expected to be launched in December, a Microsoft Store listing suggests the Surface Pro LTE device has been delayed, potentially to launch alongside Redstone 4.

-

At the end of last month, we reported on the release date for the LTE, which will launch on December 1. However, it seems will put back the release date due to an unknown problem. According to a Microsoft Store listing, the LTE version of the hybrid will not come until Spring 2018.

At the moment, this is just based on the Store listing. Microsoft has yet to confirm the delay, but Spring 2018 would coincide with the launch of Redstone 4.

Either way, we expect Surface chief to discuss the Surface Pro LTE at Future Decoded this month. The London event will see Microsoft discuss Surface hardware and could include a new device. At least, Panay will talk about the LTE model and probably announce its official release.

The Surface Pro LTE was introduced May during a Microsoft event in Shanghai. You may remember that was the show where Microsoft officially launched the new Surface Pro. The Wi-Fi model of the device has been available for months, but the company said we would have to wait for the LTE variant.

Surface Pro LTE Specs

Customers unfamiliar with the Surface Pro LTE will find a 7th Generation Intel Core processor with fanless design. It sports a 165-degree hinge that can be tilted into what Microsoft calls “Studio Mode”. This is, of course, evoking the company's Surface Studio all-in-one PC.

Elsewhere, the 5mm Surface Pro LTE weighs 1.69lbs and gets an improved Surface Pro Signature Type Cover with 1.3mm of key travel. The 13-inch display has a 3.2 aspect ratio with 267 PPO and support for the Surface Pen.

Speaking of Microsoft's stylus-like input hardware, it now has 4096 levels of pressure sensitivity. 5 hours of battery life make the device a portable product to make the most of the LTE connectivity.

Yes, those specs match up to the already launched Surface Pro. The LTE variant gets the same color choices of Platinum, Burgundy, Cobalt Blue, and Black. Microsoft has yet to announce any prices for the device.
