Microsoft yesterday sent out device updates for the Surface Pro through the Windows Update. These releases focused on enabling the device to support the newly launched Windows 10 S platform. Specifically, updates to the Intel Dynamic Platform brought the devices up to speed.
Available on the Surface Pro update history page, the update listed as August 12) changes the Processor, Power, and Generic areas of the Intel Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework.
These update focused entirely on making the Surface Pro compatible with Windows 10 S. There are no security fixes, or improvements to connectivity, battery life, or other areas of the device. Either way, here is the complete changelog:
- Intel(R) Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework Processor Participant: 8.2.11004.3973 enable support for Windows 10s.
- Intel(R) Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework Power Participant: 8.2.11004.3973 enable support for Windows 10s.

The Windows 10 S installer is now widely available to everyone. It is no surprise to see Microsoft bring support to its Surface Pro hybrid.
Windows 10 S
Windows 10 S was launched in the spring. It is a lighter version of Windows 10 and is focused towards educators and students. Microsoft launched the Surface Laptop alongside the platform, but the Surface Pro is also getting compatibility with the OS.
Recently, the company brought Office desktop app support to Windows 10 S. As an introductory offer, Microsoft is throwing in one year of Office 365 Personal on Surface devices with Windows 10 S. This subscription adds 1TB of free storage and complete Microsoft Words, PowerPoint, Excel, and OneNote.
On the subject of Surface products, Consumer Reports recently downgraded the range. The non-profit does not recommend Surface devices because of problems with reliability. Microsoft has contested the findings, but an internal memo shows that there have been issues with Surface reliability.
