As was widely expected, Microsoft today fully launched the Xbox Scorpio (Project Scorpio) console. At its pre-E3 2017 press event, the company confirmed that the device is called the Xbox One X and showed off the completed design for the first time.
Microsoft has put together a different type of hype campaign for Scorpio. The company announced the console at E3 2016 and has drip fed information on the device since. Before the event today, we have known about the specs of the device, and many of its core features.
For example, we knew Xbox One X would play 4K games natively since last year. We have also known for some time that Scorpio will arrive during the holiday season. Regarding the latter, Microsoft has today put a more concrete release timeframe on the console. Xbox One X will launch on November 7, and will be available worldwide.
Regarding the name, we have suspected Microsoft would name the device Xbox Scorpio for several months. Indeed, we have been calling it as such as it seemed the company was happy with the Scorpio branding.
Backward compatibility is fully available. This allows users to play their current Xbox One titles and content on the X console. As expected, the device is priced competitvely and will cost $499 at launch.
