The season will continue the story of Jesse, but will include a new adventure. Voice actors returning include Patton Oswalt, Catherine Taber, Ashely Johnson, and Scott Porter.

Telltale is still keeping quiet on the finer details, although the developer says YouTube stars Stampy Cat and StacyPlays will have cameos. The company also discussed the release in a post today:

“As a simple treasure hunt goes wrong, trapping Jesse's hand in a cursed prismarine gauntlet, we discover that maybe there are other downsides to fame, too – like having a dark and ancient power know your name.

A new adventure beckons, sending Jesse on a quest to the darkest depths of the world – and beyond! Joined by a motley band of familiar faces, fortune hunters, sometime enemies and one deeply disobedient llama, there will be tough choices, peril aplenty and no shortage of People Who Will Remember That.”

In the blog post, Telltale also said the first episode of Minecraft Story Mode Season 2 will be title “Hero in Residence”.

It has been clear for the last few days that the announcement was imminent. During the weekend, the first episode passed through the Australian Ratings Board. This is the country's equivalent to the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB).

Incidentally, the first episode was given a PG rating Down Under.

The second season will take advantage of Telltale's “Crowd Play” feature. This gives viewers the ability to choose options within Minecraft Story Mode. With E3 just around the corner, we expect to hear more details during the event.
