Microsoft Updates Visual Studio Team Services, Adds Mobile Experience

The new, huge update brings the mobile experience for work items to the public, allowing users to view and edit work items on-the-go.

Microsoft has announced the release of a big update for Visual Studio Team Services (VSTS). The company notes that the new features will be rolling out over the next three weeks.

By far the most important feature is the new mobile experience of work items. Users can now view and edit work items, as well as view basic lists of work items, in a mobile-optimized environment.

Thanks to the new mobile navigation, users can reach any other mobile-ready part of VSTS. In addition, if users need to interact with other hubs, they can get back to the full desktop site and continue where they left off.

Of course, users will experience an optimized look for work items. Additionally, users will be able to easily interact with items that are assigned to them, that they are following, or that they have visited or edited from their phone.

New Analytics widgets and more

Furthermore, the latest update to Visual Studio Team Services sees three new dashboard widgets being added. The Marketplace Extension for Analytics brings the Cycle Time, Lead Time, and Cumulative Flow Diagram widgets to VSTS.

Here is a list of some more new VSTS features:

  • Path filtering support for Git notifications
  • More pull request comments filtering options
  • Search for a commit in branches starting with a prefix
  • Work with secure files such as Apple certificates

Moreover, this update to VSTS will add the ability to get a free private pipeline for every Visual Studio Enterprise (VSE) subscription in Team Services. In the coming weeks, Microsoft will add the VSE subscriptions pipeline to users’ Team Services accounts.
