Microsoft has today discussed the changes made to Windows 10 Team through the Creators Update. The customized platform built for the company’s Surface Hub team collaboration hardware gets significant additions. Microsoft has already promised plenty of changes back in March, and the update is now rolling out.

The company says the Windows 10 Team Creators Update is built on extensive customer feedback. It will allow the Surface Hub to be an even more potent work tool for teams and organizations.

Available in two sizes (84-inch and 55-inch), the Surface Hub provides a large touch screen computer. It is designed to give businesses a teamwork solution with Microsoft-based services. The device comes with Full HD or Quad HD resolution, while Intel 4th generation i5 and i7 chipsets backed with 8GB of RAM is available.

Through the Creators Update, the device now has an improved start screen experience. The focus here is on giving users easier access to their Office 365 accounts. Microsoft says the redesign of the start screen “essentially turns Surface Hub into your personal Windows 10 device, and allows you to navigate quickly to Office 365 apps”.

Users can also access cloud-saved content including:

  • “Content stored in your OneDrive
  • Most recently used (MRU) documents panels inside Office applications like Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Integration with Microsoft Teams, which can be accessed today via the Edge browser”

Windows 10 Team users will also see the Surface Hub have an improved human speech ability. Microsoft has partnered with Dolby to enhance the human speech experience.

Skype and More

While Office 365 and the recently launched Microsoft Teams are important to Surface Hub, Skype is vital as a communication tool for conferencing. The Creators Update brings changes to the platform:

“Skype controls have been simplified too,” Microsoft added, “making it quicker and easier to call, message and share content with remote participants. Now you can easily scroll through the scheduled meetings on the welcome screen with the new meetings carousel and see who’s been invited to each meeting before you join.”

Additionally, Microsoft also detailed security and privacy improvements available for Surface Hub in the Windows 10 Team Creators Update:

  • The ability to set Surface Hub to wipe all data at the end of each session by default;
  • The option to require BitLocker encryption for USB ports to prevent malware and other security threats;
  • Support for additional Mobile Device Management (MDM) features, so IT administrators can change settings remotely; and
  • Support for two-factor authentication, to enable users to approve an authentication request easily on their companion device.

Finally, in mid-June, the company will release an update for the Whiteboard app on Surface Hub. Microsoft says the release will bring “intelligent digital inking, geometry recognition, table conversion, and automatic table shading.”
