Microsoft has announced the release of Windows Template Studio. The service helps Universal Windows Platform (UWP) developers with new tools in Visual Studio. It helps make it easier to build new projects for the universal platform through a user-friendly wizard. Microsoft has made the template studio open source, allowing users to add their own functions.
Windows Template Studio uses a process that aids developers through creations. The on-board wizard highlights frameworks, pages, and features into a four-step guide to building a UWP application.
Microsoft said it build the service as an evolution of Windows App Studio. Like that service, Template Studio is a free tool for dev’s. Because it is open source, users can help to improve the platform and customize the engine in their own way.
In a Windows Blog post, Microsoft says getting more help and make UWP creations easier was a main concern of developers. By using the Template Studio engine, the company says UWP apps can be completed quickly.
The four steps of the wizard are as follows:
- Project Type: Select between standard layouts and predefined controls.
- Framework selection: Select the structure of your UWP app with in-house and third-party support.
- App pages: Select which pages that make sense for the app, that you are trying to create.
- App features: Easily add features such as background tasks with one click.
In the post, Microsoft walks developers through the process of starting their UWP app creation and bringing it to full development using the tool.
Universal Windows Platform
Microsoft had plenty to discuss regarding Visual Studio at Build 2017 last week. The company announced the platform was finally available for Mac. Also, the newest version of Visual Studio 2017 was also announced, with new features for the Mobile Center.
Built for iOS and Android developers, Mobile Center supports numerous languages. Indeed, developers using Swift, Objective-C, Java, Xamarin, and React Native can develop their apps through the Mobile Center.
Windows support for Mobile Center allows developers to manage their creations for UWP on the move. Users can also automate their Universal Windows apps, collect user data, and send notifications.
The company says it will be previewing Crashes and Test for UWP applications later in the year.
