Microsoft Updates GroupMe App Across Platforms

In a rare move, Microsoft has updated the GroupMe app on Windows 10 PC, Windows phone, iOS, and Android platforms.

-

has sent out a new update for the GroupMe app. This is a release that is rolling out across all platforms and brings a couple of important new additions. The company says the update is now available on PC, , iOS, and .

Those who follow Microsoft's mobile exploits, this is a rare update. The company rarely updates and app across all platforms at the same time.

Mostly, apps are slightly different depending on platform, with some having more features than others. Microsoft has been criticized by Windows phone users for neglecting its own mobile platform. The company has instead favored sending new apps and updates to iOS and Android first.

With that in mind, it is good news to see Microsoft show some love to Windows phone with this release.

As for new features in GroupMe, there are two notable inclusions. Firstly, there is a new Bright Theme for the app, which gives users an extra option for how the app looks. Secondly, Microsoft has introduced a new ability for creating polls within GroupMe.

GroupMe

If you are unfamiliar with GroupMe, it is a service that gives users tools to sort and manage contacts by creating groups. Adding contacts to the app via phone or email brings up a number of chat options. The new poll feature is found in the chat message window.

Among the app features are:

START CHATTING: Add anyone to a group via their phone number or email address. If they are new to GroupMe, they can start chatting over SMS immediately.
CONTROL NOTIFICATIONS: You're in charge! Choose when and what type of notifications you receive. Mute specific chats, or the entire app – you can even leave or end group chats.
SAY MORE THAN WORDS: Go ahead – fall in love with our exclusive emoji.
THE WHOLE INTERNET IN YOUR GROUP: Meme images, search and send GIFs, and see content shared from URLs displayed in the chat.
SHARE NOW, RELIVE LATER: The gallery saves your memories. Easily explore the photos and videos shared in your group now, or later.
LEAVE TEXTING BEHIND: With direct messages, you can use all the features you love for group chat, but one-on-one. It's like texting, but better.
CHAT WHEREVER YOU ARE: Including from your computer at groupme.com

You can find the app on Windows, iOS, and Android.
