When discussing Microsoft Project Scorpio / Xbox Scorpio, the cat is out of the proverbial bag. In the last couple of weeks, most of the speculation has been corroborated with an announcement of the official specs. Microsoft has now officially announced it will fully launch Xbox Scorpio at E3 2017.

Of course, this is not new information per se. Microsoft has previously said the reveal will happen at the its press event on June 11 2 PM PDT (11 AM EDT). However, this is the official announcement to confirm the launch.

In a blog post on Thursday, the company says bringing the best product to gamers and developers is important:

“We’ve created the most powerful console with you in mind. We’ve created the most powerful development platform with our industry’s creators in mind. And, we’re unifying players across PC and console with Xbox Live, the fastest, most reliable multiplayer network and Beam, the next generation streaming service.”

Considering what we already know about Xbox Scorpio, the most interesting things about the live stream will be cost, availability, design, and software.

Microsoft will tell us when the device will launch, with Holiday Season being the general timeframe. We should also learn how much Scorpio will cost. Anything below $500 will probably be seen as a win for the company.

Also, the Xbox team will undoubtedly discuss which games will be coming to the platform at launch. Expect some AAA titles to be confirmed.

Project Scorpio Details

One of the most mysterious aspects of the Project Scorpio Xbox is its final look.

We got a major hint towards the design yesterday when the developer kits were revealed. While the final look will be close to these kits, there will be some difference made to the final aesthetic.

Last week Microsoft announced the specs of the console. Eurogamer reported that the Xbox Scorpio will come with the following hardware:

  • CPU: Eight custom x86 cores clocked at 2.3GHz
  • GPU: 40 customized compute units at 1172MHz
  • Memory: 12GB GDDR5 with 8GB for games
  • Memory bandwidth: 326GB/s
  • Hard drive: 1TB 2.5-inch
  • Optical drive: 4K UHD Blu-ray

It has a compute power 4.5 times more than the current console. Microsoft has already confirmed the device will get 6TFLOPs for horsepower.
