Today (April 11) is the day the Windows 10 Creators Update will start to be automatically rolled out to users. The update will arrive in stages over the coming weeks.

As we have known for a couple of months, today is the day drops off the Creators Update. The company has now confirmed that the feature update is beginning its automatic roll out. Some platforms and users have already officially received the update before this launch.

Microsoft sent out the Creators Update to the Xbox One last month. PC users who wanted to clean install the OS themselves have been able to do so since last week. However, most Windows 10 users will be getting their update automatically. Today is the first time that can happen.

As with the Anniversary Update last August, Microsoft is rolling out the Creators Update in stages. This basically means the upgrade will be sent out over the next weeks to three months. In other words, some users may be lucky enough to get it today, while others will have to wait.

Needless to say, if you are running Windows 10 with the Anniversary Update, you should not panic if you do not see the new release. You will be getting it.

If the wait is too unbearable, there are alternatives. Firstly, it is possible to clean install it from Microsoft's ISO files, but this will not be for most users as it could be complicated for first timers. Secondly, the Microsoft Upgrade Assistant can be used to bring in the update now.

Of course, if you already have the Creators Update, we would love to know how it is treating you.

Windows 10 Creators Update

As well as introducing the Creators Update today, Microsoft also provided a refresher on what the upgrade brings. 3D in Windows is arguably the focus of the update and features heavily in new additions.

The Windows 10 Creators Update adds 3D abilities to the Edge browser and PowerPoint. Users can place 3D objects within a PowerPoint slide and other apps. It is also possible interact with those objects by zooming and revolving.

On Microsoft Edge, 3D can work with HoloLens to allow true 3D browsing. If you see an object or content piece you like, you can move it into the real augmented world environment.

Paint 3D is a major upgrade for the old Paint suite. It introduces a new dimension of Paint creation. With Paint 3D users can draw a 3D sketch on one device and view it later on another Windows 10 device, such as mobile or HoloLens.

When ported to the HoloLens, the 3D image will be viewable as a hologram. Other features include “Time Machine” and “Magic Select”.

Further additions include changes to Windows 10 PC gaming, including Beam streaming integration. This was also added to Xbox One, and you can see how the Creators Update changed the console in our previous report.

Of course, the upgrade comes with many more new features and tweaks. Take a look at the source below to see Microsoft's detailed take on the Creators Update.
