Project Scorpio: Microsoft Updates Xbox Website with New Specs

The Xbox website now reflects the Project Scorpio specs released by Digital Foundry yesterday. It offers explanations for Microsft's 'Hovis' performance optimization and cooling details.

-

Yesterday marked the big specs reveal of 's next console, codenamed Project Scorpio. An exclusive release by Eurogamer's Digital Foundry shows considerable advantages over the Xbox One S.

Today Microsoft has rolled out a confirmation of sorts – updating the Xbox website with the latest details. It put the information in digestible chunks that are easier to understand.

Official Scorpio Specs

The page offers information about the Scorpio Engine, as well as Microsoft's performance-maximizing ‘Hovis Method'. Here's the full description:

  1. “Scorpio Engine: With 6 Teraflops, 326GB/s of Memory Bandwidth and advanced, custom silicon, the Scorpio Engine is the most powerful console gaming processor ever created.
  2. Vapor Chamber:  A first for home consoles, 's Vapor Chamber uses advanced liquid cooling to ensure the Scorpio Engine stays cool.
  3. Centrifugal Fan: A supercharger-style Centrifugal Fan rapidly pulls in and compresses air to deliver maximum cooling with minimum noise.
  4. Hovis Method: To maximize performance and minimize power consumption, Project Scorpio uses the Hovis Method, a cutting edge digital power delivery system that custom tunes each console's voltage.”

Underneath, the tech giant lists some specs of the console:

  • “True 4K Gaming
  • 6 Teraflop GPU
  • 2.3 GHz Custom CPU
  • 1TB HDD Storage
  • 12GB GDDR5 Memory
  • 326 GB/s Memory Bandwith
  • HDR Games & Entertainment
  • 4K UHD Blu-ray/DVD”

While the changes offer no new information on the console, they do consolidate Digital Foundry's conclusions and put them in the words of your average consumer. It's clear Microsoft isn't backing down on its promise of ‘true 4k', and the consensus is that it will reach that target.

Naturally, there are still some details we're waiting on. Though the console is significantly better than both the PS4 Pro and its predecessor, its price point will play a big role in its success.

The look of the console is another big factor, though Digital Foundry has seen and praised the design. Finally, though we know the console will launch in Q4 2017, we don't have a concrete release date.

As a result, Microsoft still has plenty up its sleeves for E3, which will run from June 14-16. Until then, feel free to check out the updated webpage.
