Microsoft Updates Skype for Business with Changes to Cloud PBX and More

The latest update for Skype for Business also brings a preview of a new Call Analytics dashboard and meeting room solutions.

Microsoft has updated its Skype for Business solution with some new features. The company has been bolstering the service and the new update reflects the incremental improvements Microsoft favors. Office 365 subscribers can take advantage of the new features from today.

The update was announced by Office 365 Marketing exec Ron Markezich. Among the new features revealed was additions for the Skype for Business Cloud PBX. Microsoft has also made changes to its call analytics experience for IT admins.

Markezich says the new features and existing platform “advance our goal of putting communication at the heart of productivity with Skype.”

Here are the specific changes announced today:

  • Availability of Auto Attendant and Call Queues, two new calling features in Skype for Business Cloud PBX.
  • Preview of the new Skype for Business Call Analytics dashboard, which provides IT admins with greater visibility to identify and address call issues.
  • New meeting room solutions from our partners, including Polycom RealConnect for Office 365, which enables customers to connect existing video conferencing devices to Skype for Business Online meetings; and the new Crestron SR for Skype Room Systems, which seamlessly integrates with the Crestron control and AV systems.
  • Availability of Enghouse Interactive’s TouchPoint Attendant, the first attendant console for Skype for Business Online.

Skype for Business Milestones

While announcing the new update, the executive also talked up some recent Skype milestones. Markezich says the platform is available to 85 million Office 365 customers in over 90 countries.

He adds that the communication platform was responsible for over one billion meetings each year. Skype for Business Online’s growth has been excellent, more than doubling in the last year.
