Microsoft Will Announce Dynamics 365 for Operations On-Premises Support This Week

At the launch of Dynamics 365 for Operations last year, Microsoft said an on-premises version will arrive. The company will announce the support at the Dynamics 365 Tech Conference this week.

has announced it will start offering for Operations as an on-premises solution. This will be a new version of the company's ERP suite and will launch in preview. According to ZDNet, Microsoft will announce its newest variants at the Dynamics 365 Tech Conference in Seattle this week.

Dynamics 365 for Operations was first last July and was made generally available in November. The for Operations suite arrived alongside the roll out of Dynamics 365. An extension of the SaaS, Dynamics 365 for Operations offers a new header to allow clients to move smoothly between applications.

It is an evolution of Microsoft's former Dynamics AX service for Azure. As a business management solution, it adapts across Retail, Distribution, Manufacturing, Public Sector and Service industries. It supports backend operations for customers in the mid-market or higher.

When announced last year, Microsoft said that it would maintain Dynamics CRM and ERP solutions for on-premises. However, the company did not expand on when that support would happen. The November full launch coincided with Microsoft introducing hybrid scenarios for the service.

Since then, the company has reconfirmed its commitment to bringing processing completely on-premises.

Introducing an on-premises variant of the service, Microsoft is allowing customers to keep their business data off the cloud. There is now syncing for Microsoft cloud, but it does mean some caveats are in place.

For example, without cloud integration, customers miss out on services like Power BI and Microsoft Azure features.

The ZDNet report points to Microsoft launching hybrid and on-premises Dynamics 365 solutions this year. Speaking to Mary Jo Foley, Sri Srinivasan, general manager for Microsoft Dynamics 365 says that Operations is the Dynamics 365 solution most suited to on-premises demands.
