Back in September 2016, the Skype Preview app appeared to be “ready to download” for Xbox One users, at the Store. Now, has released the UWP application to the Xbox One Alpha Ring.

The arrival of on Xbox One means that users of the console now have two ways to make Skype calls on their Xbox. Microsoft's console already comes with a native app for the service, called Skype on Xbox One, which contains Xbox One-only elements.

Xbox One Skype Preview still without CompactOverlay

Just two days ago, Microsoft rolled out a new update for the Skype Preview app on Windows 10. The company introduced support for the CompactOverlay mode for users running Creators Update previews.

The CompactOverlay mode helps users continue a phone or video call while performing other tasks. Thanks to CompactOverlay, Skype will position itself with an Always On Top video window, allowing a conversation to be maintained and other app actions to be performed.

This mode is not yet available in the Skype Preview app that Microsoft has released to the Xbox One Alpha Ring, however, it will likely arrive soon.

One day later, Microsoft released an update for Skype Preview on iOS and Android, which introduced new video call and IM features such as in-call reactions.
