Microsoft Issues Windows 10 15048, the First Slow Ring Release of the Year

Windows 10 15048 is a PC preview for the Creators Update. It passed through the Fast Ring a week ago, but due to a long delay in Slow Ring releases, it gains many new features coming to the branch.

-

has today sent out Preview 15048 for Windows Insiders on the . You may remember that this build was sent out to the a week ago. More importantly, this is the first Slow Ring release for PC in 2017.

The company usually rolls out Fast Ring releases on a weekly basis, while reserving Slow Ring updates for monthly launches. However, Microsoft has been sporadic with its Windows 10 Slow Ring updates in recent months.

Why that has happened is not clear. The company has been working on Fast Ring upgrades for the . Indeed, Slow Ring releases have been an afterthought.

The last PC release was Windows 10 build 14986 back in December. Mobile users had to wait longer, although they got a Slow Ring release last week (build 15043).

As we saw last week, Windows 10 build 15048 did not have any new front end features when it dropped to Windows Insiders last week. Moving through branches to the Slow Ring changes that, however.

Feature Packed

Because Microsoft has delayed releases for so long, users are getting many features that have been included in the more regular Fast Ring updates over the last few months. It is worth checking the Windows 10 update history on the Insider to see exactly what new additions are available.

As a quick overview, Microsoft has made changes to many services recently. For example, Cortana, , Edge, and the general OS have all seen improvements on the Fast Ring.

If you want to pull in this update, head to Settings>Update & Security>Windows Update to see the build.
