Microsoft Releases Touch Bar Support for Outlook on Mac for Insider Slow Ring

Outlook 15.23 introduces Touch Bar support for the first time, as well as in-built translation, and Wunderlist/Boomerang support.

Despite the rivalry between OSX and Windows, has been implementing Touch Bar support across its product. Most recently, it introduced the feature to Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.

The same functionality has now rolled out to Outlook 2016. It gives access to the most common commands, such as formatting, calendar views, and joining meetings.

As well as Touch Bar, Outlook's latest build introduces several features and improvements. Here's the full changelog:

  • “Touch bar support on the new MacBook Pro: In Outlook, the most relevant commands to what you're working on are at your fingertips. (Compatible with MacBook Pro with Touch Bar only). For more information, see Office for Mac adds touch bar support.
  • Read email in your preferred language: Now you can translate email without leaving Outlook. Just turn on the Translator add-in to translate with a single tap. Choose from 60 languages. Learn more about the Translator for Outlook add-in or get it now.
  • Access more features right from your Inbox: Add-ins for Outlook let you create tasks with Wunderlist, track email responses with Boomerang, and more. Learn how to get an add-in for Outlook.”

The ability to add language preferences for Outlook is a particular strength here. It do so through Microsoft Translator, and should save plenty of Bing or Google searches.

As mentioned earlier, these changes are only available to Office Insiders. Thankfully, its very simple to enroll, found in the Help menu of Outlook.

However, it's worth noting that these builds aren't entirely stable and could cause issues with your emails or PC as a whole. For some, it will be better to wait for the prodcution release, which should be in a week or two.
