While the tablet market has been stagnated in recent years, the hybrid or convertible market has grown on the back of Microsoft’s Surface Pro devices. So, while smartphones are the chief concern at the Mobile World Conference (2017), Windows 10 hybrids are certainly interesting. Take, for example, the new HP Pro x2 612 G2.

The device is a Surface Clone that is not necessarily aimed at consumers. Instead, HP says the Pro x2 612 G2 is aimed at optimizing workflows, specifically for the government, healthcare, and retail sectors.

In terms of specs, it doesn’t really differentiate from a normal hybrid convertible. Under the hood is the new Kaby Lake processors from Intel are running the hybrid. Elsewhere there is up to 8GB of LPDDR3 RAM, options for SATA or SSD storage up to 512GB, and an aluminium body.

Connectivity options include Bluetooth, 802.11ac wireless, and the option of an LTE model. Port selection includes one USB-A and one USB-C port, a microSD card reader, and a headphone jack.

In terms of specifications, the Pro x2 612 g2 follows consumer hybrid standards, but HP has defined it as a business-focused product by its hardware. The 2-in-1 convertible has four distinct viewing modes: Notebook, Tablet, Inking, and Presentation. You can see those different modes in the gallery above.

Productivity Peripherals

HP says these different ways of working on the device allow more creative productivity. The peripherals for the product also showcase its enterprise credentials. A magnetically attachable ‘Collaboration Keyboard’ sports dedicated keys for voice and video calling. HP also has its Active Wacom Pen included, while a 165-degree kickstand helps to enhance presentations.

Of course, security if hugely important in business devices. The Pro x2 612 g2 comes with the HP Client Security Suite Gen3, while customers can also opt for a fingerprint sensor and NFC connectivity via an added peripheral.

HP expects this to be a device users carry around with them on day to day activities. The company has launched a rugged case for the Pro x2, while the HP Retail Case 12 provides a “portable solution for store associates to sell and conduct mobile transactions on the sales floor.”
