Minecraft: Pocket Edition Comes to Windows 10 Mobile with Free Upgrade

Users of Minecraft on Windows Phone and Windows 10 Mobile can now get a free upgrade to Minecraft: Pocket Edition. Mojang today announced the Windows 10 game is coming to mobile for the first time.

Minecraft developer Mojang has today announced that the Windows 10 version of the game is coming to mobile devices. In a release, the Microsoft-owned company says Minecraft: Pocket Edition is landing on Windows 10 Mobile, and is arriving with a major update.

Until now, the title has only been available on Windows Phone devices. However, Mojang says users who have a device eligible for Windows 10 Mobile will get a free upgrade to the Windows 10 version of Minecraft for free.

If you are unsure on your versions, this is good news. Mostly because the Windows 10 game offers numerous added features and content over the Windows Phone variant. For example, the game adds Realms and Achievements to the experience.

Pocket Edition also delivers the Ender Update. Released in December, this was a major release for the game as it brought many new features and content to the game. For example, The End is a new world full of cities, ships, and people. In the final stages, gamers must battle the formidable Ender Dragon.

Minecraft on Windows 10 Mobile

This news is timely. Microsoft stopped updating Minecraft for Windows Phone 8 in October, 2016. There have been rumors that the company would also end support for the game on Windows 10 Mobile.

It is now clear Mojang wants to continue development on the platform. For Windows Phone users who cannot upgrade, there is no way back. Those users can still play the game, but will receive no new content or features from future updates.

To get those update, users will need to upgrade to Windows 10 Mobile. Those who already have the platform and Minecraft also get the upgrade for free.

Minecraft: Pocket Edition celebrated its fifth birthday in December.
